By: Gracious Akujobi Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi has hailed the qualification of the Golden Eaglets for the second round of the ongoing U-17 world cup in Dubai.
In a release made available to Prompt News Online, Abdullahi praised the Garba Manu-led boys for making the country proud thus far, while urging them to remain focused as the tournament progresses.
Abdullahi commended the boys for putting up an impressive performance, praising them for displaying grit, determination and excellent dribbling skills.
“I am really impressed with their performance so far. These boys are a delight to watch and have shown that they have got what it takes to make impact in the championship.
“I however urge them to remain focused and not to be carried away by the adulation of victory. The job is not done yet until they have lifted the trophy. Fortunately, we have an impressive record in the FIFA Under 17 Games; they too can become champions by writing their names in gold.
“I commend the technical crew led by Coach Manu Garba for a job well done and for keeping the boys focused,” he said.
The Golden Eaglets defeated the Iraq team by 5-0. The team had earlier beaten Mexico 6-1 and drew 3-3 with Sweden, a performance that ensured Eaglets finished top of their group with seven points.
Nigeria will now meet runners up from group E, Iran on Tuesday in Dubai.
