By Gracious Akujobi Former chief coach of Super Eagles, Samson Siaisia has disclosed that a football academy of excellence will soon take off in Bayelsa state.
Speaking to Prompt News Online in Abuja, Siasia says grooming Bayelsa State players with the intent of playing in the national team is the main reason behind opening the academy.
“What we want to do is to go to the grassroots and see if we can scout some young good players. As we all know since I left the national team, Bayelsa state has not been represented in the national team.
“So, the governor sees it fit that now I am not working in the national team I should go back and see how I can help the academy grow. We know it is going to take time but he has given us permission to run a world class academy”.
The ex-Nigeria international says the idea is to “catch them young” where the academy players can play football and also pursue their academic pursuit.
He spoke further, “The sports commissioner is trying to build the academy to a standard and then my duty is to do the recruitment to get competent hands who will work with me.
“We are looking at young boys from age 12-18 because we are going to be combining football and education”.
