Rivers State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has berated those who still regard Governors as Chief Security Officers of their states.
Wike who spoke on CHANNELS TELEVISION breakfast programme ‘Sunrise Daily’ Friday insisted that Governors are nothing but “Chief Logistics Officers” of their respective states just as he argued that he was speaking from experience.
“I have refused to answer the Chief Security Officer of Rivers state. No, not when I will wakeup to realise that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has in fiat withdrawn all my Security Details. So, how am I now the Chief Security Officer of my state?”, he asked.
Wike restated his stand that he is not the Chief Security Officer of Rivers state, saying “it will amount to deceiving himself to be addressed as such when I cannot direct even the Rivers state Police Commissioner to act when he the CP is answerable to the IGP in Abuja”.
Meanwhile, Gov. Wike has taken a swipe at former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, saying he would have been under fire if Governor Godwin Obaseki did not win the last Saturday’s Guber Election in Edo state.
According to him, “Adams Oshiomhole would have said to Nigerians, I told you that Gov. Wike can’t help Gov. Obaseki to win Edo Election. The talk would have been I told you people that Wike can’t win the election”.
Asked by the interviewers if he actually assisted Gov. Obaseki to win, said he provided only moral support by coming to Edo state on behalf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to encourage their candidate to be strong in faith.
“As the Chairman of PDP National Campaign Council for Edo state Governorship Election, I was duty- bound to be physically present in Edo to tell Gov. Obaseki that, look I faced such herculean task before and won, so he can also win in Edo.
“What other support could I have given to him, a sitting Governor? He has everything he needs to face his election. Those who are saying Wike moved Rivers state resources to Edo are just trying to be mischievous.
“I am glad I was there to see things for myself and my party won fair and square”, Wike concluded.
