Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State says his administration is embracing private sector-led initiatives in the state’s development plan because he believes they are more sustainable in the long run.
Makinde said this at the stakeholders’ consultative engagement on the 2025 budget held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, on Wednesday.
The governor said the state economy was better off with the multimillion-naira investment into it by the private sector.
He maintained that the state felt justified in allowing more private investments into the state.
According to him, he receives applications daily from private investors willing to do business with the state.
He said the development signalled investors’ growing confidence in the state economy, showing that the state economic landscape was expanding.
The governor equally announced that his government was looking forward to working with the private sector to drive more inclusive agribusiness programmes and youth training.
According to him, his administration targets the completion of the ongoing Ibadan circular road project within the next one year.
He said that the 32-kilometre road would be the first freeway in Nigeria upon completion.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that stakeholders from different sectors called for more attention on fixing feeder roads and renovating public school infrastructure.
The participants also demanded for provision of drugs in Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and recruitment of more health workers.
They further called for easy access to loans by farmers, grants for women and children, and the establishment of vocational training centres with adequate equipment.
Other requests include the provision of seedlings/inputs for farmers, renovation of schools for the disabled and getting rid of street nuisance.
NAN also reports that traditional rulers, representatives of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Community Development Councils (CDCs) attended the meeting.
Others include the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), labour unions, youth organisations, Persons Living with Disabilities and farmers’ associations. (NAN).
