The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a Nigerian fugitive wanted by authorities in the Niger Republic over the alleged murder of his business partner.
The suspect, identified as Mas’udu Saidu, was apprehended in Gulma Town, Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying Saidu was wanted for allegedly stabbing his 38-year-old Nigerian business partner, Mas’udu Sani, to death in the Niger Republic.
According to the police, the suspect fled Niger and returned to Nigeria following the alleged killing in an attempt to evade arrest.
Usman said the Nigerian Police commenced a search for Saidu after he was declared wanted by the Nigerien authorities, leading to his eventual arrest in Kebbi.
He said, “Yes, we have arrested a fugitive wanted in the Niger Republic for stabbing his business partner to death in the Niger Republic. We are currently investigating him.”
The police spokesperson said the arrest underscored the command’s commitment to ensuring that suspects wanted for serious offences do not escape justice by crossing national borders.
The command urged Nigerians living abroad to conduct themselves responsibly and avoid acts capable of tarnishing the image of the country.
The police further warned that individuals suspected of committing crimes could not evade the law indefinitely, regardless of how long they remained in hiding.
