Jennifer Echegini can’t wait to make her first appearance at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Prompt News reports.
Echegini is expected to be named in Super Falcons’ squad for the WAFCON 2024 finals.
The midfielder has already represented Nigeria at two major international competitions – the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The former Juventus player stated that it will be a big honour for her to step on the pitch in Morocco.
“It’s very special. I’ve been in major international competitions, but I haven’t played in a WAFCON yet. This will be my first time, and I’m very excited. I watched the last edition two years ago and already thought: “One day, it’ll be my turn,” Echegini told CAFonline.
“Now that moment is here. It’s a different atmosphere, a different energy. Representing my country on the African continent is a huge honor. The Women’s AFCON is about history, culture, emotion. I can’t wait to live it from the inside.”
Justine Madugu’s side are drawn in Group B with Tunisia Botswana, and Algeria.
The nine-time African champions will open their campaign against Tunisia at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium, Casablanca on Sunday, July 6.
Justine Madugu’s side will take on Botswana in their second group game at the same ground four days later.
They will take on Algeria in their final group stage game at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium, Casablanca on Sunday, July 13.
Morocco will host the biennial competition from Saturday, 5 July to Saturday , July 26, 2025.
