The Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr Osita Okechukwu, has lauded the Supreme Court judgment affirming the election of President Muhammadu Buhari in the Feb. 23 presidential election.
Okechukwu in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday also described as cheerful and commendable, the dismissal of the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar against election of Buhari.
“How can you (Atiku) beat someone who got 12 million votes in 2003, 2007 and 2011, when he was not a sitting president,” he said.
Okechukwu recalled that Atiku lost his golden opportunity of becoming a president in 2003, when the whole democrats in country stood beside him but he allowed former President Olusegun Obasanjo to take the opportunity.
“Atiku proved a true democrat because he had the golden privilege of becoming Nigeria’s President in 2003 when over 20 governors, the entire democrats and of course providence supported him.
“But he fell for the trick of Obasanjo and dropped the Presidential ticket of the PDP then.
“In 2019, Atiku was not lucky because there was no way he could had garnered enough votes to beat Buhari’s legendary 12 million Vote-Bank,” he said.
He added that Atiku’s restructuring mantra did not resonate well in his immediate geopolitical zone.
“To be frank, Atiku lost his presidency slot in 2003 when over 20 governors and a lot of democrats were behind him. He fell for Obasanjo’s tricks and lost the presidency,” Okechukwu said.
