The Management of the Veritas University, Abuja has commended the Knights of St Mulumba Nigeria for continuously being a pillar of support to the institution since relocating to its permanent site in 2014.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Hyacinth E. Ichoku made the commendation during the opening Mass of the KSM just-concluded 43rd Supreme Convention held at the University Chapel in Bwari at the weekend.
KSM Nigeria had erected and furnished the multi million Naira Chapel at the request of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria and donated same to the university academic community.
Prof Ichoku said, “For a long time now, the Knights of Saint Mulumba have and continue to be one of the strongest pillars of support to Veritas University. As we all know, is central to our life is a Catholic University community
“It is on record that this Chapel was built by the KSM, and from the records, when the Nigerian Church hierarchy called on them, the KSM responded quickly and ensured that this Chapel was built for this academic community when it relocated to Abuja from Obehie in 2014.”
The Vice Chancellor then announced that it was in view of this that the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has approved the naming of the Chapel after Fr Abraham Ojefua the Father Founder of the KSM “in recognition of your great contribution to the making of Veritas university”.
He disclosed that over the past five years the University has made significant progress to justify “the sacrifices you collectively made for its development”, adding that the student population has grown from less than 1000 when it arrived on campus in 2014 to almost 5000, including the Post graduate programs.
“The number of programs has now grown to over 55. We also have PhD programs in in Economics, Political Sciences, English and Literary Studies Accounting and Mass Communication. All our programs are accredited by the National Universities Commission”, he added.
Meanwhile, the 11th Convocation Ceremony for the conferment degrees and higher degrees to graduating and postgraduate students, will hold on Saturday, 3rd of November, 2022.
The vice chancellor who announced this, said the university will for the very first time be awarding Honorary Doctorate Degrees to three illustrious Nigerians, including His Eminence, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, His Grace Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama (Archbishop of Abuja and Chancellor, Veritas University) and Sir Johnson Arumemi Ikhide (Founder and Chairman, Arik Air).
