By Gracious Akujobi Dilichukuwu Onyedinma, Chairperson of the Nigerian women league has expressed optimism that Super Falcons will qualify from the group stage of the FIFA World Cup 2015.
Onyedinma told Prompt News that the Falcons would not be in Canada as participants but as one of the contenders for the world cup, adding that the group which has former world champions USA, Sweden and Australia will be tough but that Falcons will scale through.
“They say it is the group of death but I believe the Super Falcons will not die in that group. We would survive and go far in the championship. Our girls will shock the world by making their mark by reaching at worst the last eight.
“We are not scared by the pedigree of USA and Sweden We respect them but we are not afraid of playing them, I know the Falcons will rise to the occasion and beat either USA or Sweden to get one of the two tickets
She continued “we at the NFF will do all that is necessary to ensure that the Falcons are prepared and motivated to do well at the world cup. As African champions, the Falcons must prove their mettle and make progress in the championship”.
She however promise that Falcons will be given the best preparation as well as grade A friendly matches adding that after the successes at the -17 and U-20 at the World Cup,it is time to shake the world at the senior level.
Onyedinma who is also an executive member of NFF said NFF will stick with the coaches that qualified Nigeria for the World Cup adding that Edwin Okon and his assistants will definitely lead Super Falcons to Canada.
“The coaches shall be sent to refresher courses to keep them abreast with the latest in the game. I don’t think we have time to start looking for a foreign technical adviser for the team. The NFF President Amaju Pinnick has assured the team that they will get full support” she concluded.
