In the bid to fulfill its social responsibility of giving back to the society, the Upper Room Baptist Church, Ketu Lagos, will present Academic Awards for outstanding performance in the 2017 West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to the General Overseer of the Church, Pastor Oluleke Akinola, the award is part of the Church’s contribution to complement government’s effort at improving the standard of education in the State
He also added that the presentation, which is part of activities to mark the 30th year Anniversary celebration of the Church will be in 4 categories: Students Category – Overall best three students, Teachers’ Category – Best teacher in English Language, Mathematics, Biology and Economics, Schools Category – Overall best three schools and Principals Category – Principals of the overall best three schools.
The highlight of the event, which among others would include a Public Lecture on Health and Education, will be delivered by the Hon.Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole.
The Award was established by the church in 2012 to annually acknowledge and reward good performance in the Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area of the State on the basis of WASSCE results, thus supporting government effort to raise the standard of education in the State.
Other activities at the week-long celebration, which commences on Monday, 9th October, 2017 would include visitation to Orphanages, Public lectures and Bible College graduation, amongst others.
Meanwhile, the immediate past winners of the awards include Mr A .O. Oguntade. Biology teacher in Ayedere Ajibola Senior High School, Ketu and Mr B.A. Babatunde, an Economics teacher of the same school, received Excellence Award Winners in teachers’ category while Mende Senior High School, Maryland and Ifako Comprehensive Senior High School, Gbagada went home with school’s category award.
