Nigeria’s Flamingos have set their sights on securing a place in the knockout round at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The Flamingos started their campaign in blistering fashion sweeping past New Zealand 4-1 on Wednesday night.
Ecuador, who are making their debut in the competition also defeated hosts Dominican Republic 2-0 in their opening fixture.
A win for either side would punch their ticket to the knockout phase, while a draw would take matters to the final day.
Flamingos head coach Bankole Olowookere has already declared his team’s readiness for the task ahead.
”Our tournament strategy is to focus on the next match, take it one match at a time. We need not look farther than the next match, and now, we have Ecuador in our sights.
“The Ecuadorians have shown, with their defeat of the host nation, that they may be debutants but not a team to be taken for granted,” he told thenff.com.
“The players have recovered well from their opening match victory over New Zealand and we are ready for Ecuador.
“We know that three points in that game will all but get us into the knock-out stage. It is an opportunity we will not allow to slip out of our hands.”
