Two miners have been killed after gunmen attacked a mining site in Kuru Jenta, Heipang District, in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 11:30pm on Friday while the victims and other miners were working at the site.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the attack in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday.
Tengwong described the incident as unprovoked and expressed concern over the renewed attacks on mining sites in the state.
According to him, the latest incident occurred barely one week after two other miners were killed by gunmen at a mining site in Rakum village, Jos South Local Government Area.
He called on security agencies to investigate the latest attack, identify the perpetrators and ensure that those responsible were brought to justice.
The BYM spokesman also advised miners and other residents to avoid mining activities at night, stressing the need for heightened vigilance in view of the security situation.
Tengwong expressed concern that the attack occurred despite the curfew imposed by the Plateau State Government on three local government areas, including Barkin Ladi.
He urged residents to comply with the curfew and other security measures, warning them against engaging in activities that could expose them to danger.
