No fewer than five persons, including two children, lost their lives in a tragic road accident along the Abeokuta–Lagos Expressway in Ogun State on Thursday.
The crash occurred at Iyana Egbado area of the highway and involved a white Mazda E2000 commercial bus with registration number KRD809XC.
According to the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, the vehicle was conveying 20 passengers at the time of the incident.
The spokesperson for the command, Odunsi Afolabi, disclosed that the passengers comprised six adult males, 11 adult females, one male child and two female children.
Afolabi stated that two children, one adult male and two women died in the lone accident, while 10 other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries.
He added that five passengers escaped unhurt.
The FRSC spokesperson explained that the crash occurred at about 11:12 a.m. and was reported three minutes later.
He noted that rescue operatives from the Itori Unit Command responded swiftly to the distress call and arrived at the scene within five minutes to rescue victims and clear the affected area.
The injured victims were reportedly taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment, while the corpses of the deceased were deposited at a morgue.

Authorities are yet to disclose the exact cause of the accident as investigations continue.
