Two new Governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rabiu Kwakwanso of Kano and Aliyu Wammako of Sokoto may have reconsidered their decision to dump the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Both Governors made a surprise appearance at the Presidential Villa on Sunday and joined Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger state in a late night closed door meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan, other PDP governors and key party members.
The two governors alongside three of their colleagues- Ahmed Abdulfatah of Kwara, Muritala Nyako of Adamawa and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers, had a couple of weeks ago declared after a meeting between the defunct new PDP and APC leaderships that they had joined the APC.
Both Babangida Aliyu of Niger and Sule Lamido of Jigawa had immediately backed out of the merger arrangement. Thus, the two of them attended meeting with President Jonathan last week Sunday.
Niger state Governor Aliyu was the first to arrive the First Lady conference hall, Presidential Villa, venue of the peace meeting. Later, Governors Kwakwanso and Wammako who drove in the same vehicle arrived.
Later, Governors loyal to the Presidency and the Bamanga Tukur-led PDP arrived. Those who attended were Godswil Akpabio (Akwa ibom), Jonah Jang (Plateau), Liyel Imoke (Cross Rivers) and Theodre Orji (Abia),
Others were Idris Wada (Kogi), Ibrahim Shema (Katsina), Dakingari (Kebbi), Sulivan Chime (Enugu), Martins Elechi (Ebonyi), Ramalan Yero (Kaduna), Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta), Isa Yuguda (Bauchi) and the acting governor of Taraba state.
Prior to coming to the Presidential Villa, the loyal governors were said to have met at Akwa Ibom Governors’ Lodge under the auspices of PDP Governors’ forum chaired by governor Akpabio.
Also present at the meeting were Vice President Nmadi Sambo, the chairman of PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Tony Anenih and the National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dauski.
