Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Lokoja, have rescued six kidnapped victims during an early-morning operation in Obajana, Kogi State.
The operation, carried out on Thursday in collaboration with other security agencies, was completed without any casualties among the troops.
Brig.-Gen. Kasim Sidi, Commander of the 12 Brigade and Force Commander, Operation Accord III, said the rescue was made possible through intelligence gathering. Represented by Lt-Col Francis Nwoffiah, he explained that the troops tracked the kidnappers to a forest hideout, where they engaged them in a gun battle.
The suspects fled with injuries, abandoning their victims along with ammunition and personal items. Among those rescued was the Seriki Fulani of Asinwe community in Okehi Local Government Area, abducted from his home.
Four of the victims were kidnapped on August 12 in Asinwe, while two others were taken on July 28 in Apata community, Lokoja.
The six victims — four men and two women — were freed unhurt and are receiving medical care before reuniting with their families.
Brig.-Gen. Sidi warned criminals in Kogi and neighbouring states to desist or face decisive military action, assuring that operations would be intensified.
He praised the troops and security partners for their professionalism.

One of the victims, Adamu Zage, the Seriki Fulani of Asinwe, thanked the army for their swift intervention and prayed for the protection of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
