Troops operating in Zamfara State have disrupted a key logistics route used by armed groups after arresting a suspected ammunition courier in Shinkafi Local Government Area.

Security operatives intercepted 25-year-old Shamsiyya Ahadu in the Badarawa axis of Shinkafi while she was allegedly ferrying a large consignment of munitions destined for militant camps, security sources said on Monday.

Searches at the scene yielded 764 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and six rifle magazines, the sources added.

The motorcycle rider conveying the suspect, identified as Ahmed Husaini, was also taken into custody. Both suspects remain detained and are being questioned as investigations continue to map the supply chain and identify additional collaborators.

Preliminary inquiries indicate the cache was bound for a camp linked to a well-known terror kingpin who has long featured on security watchlists for his group’s assaults across the North-West, officials said.

Military authorities said the arrest underscores a worrying trend, the increasing use of civilian couriers, including women, to move arms and ammunition for criminal networks.

They pledged to sustain intensified patrols and intelligence-driven operations aimed at choking off the logistics and supply lines that sustain violent groups in Zamfara and neighbouring states.
