Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, Registrar, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has emerged President of Africa Federation of Teaching Regulatory Authorities (AFTRA).
Ajiboye emerged president on Wednesday in Accra Ghana, at the end of AFTRA 9th Annual Conference and 11th Roundtable.
Ajiboye who is expected to serve for a renewable tenure of three years, took over from Mr Mabutho Cele.
He was Deputy President of AFTRA, elected in 2018 in Maseru, Lesotho at the Extra Ordinary Board meeting of the Federation
The Africa Federation of Teaching Regulatory Authorities(AFTRA), is a continental body comprising of teaching regulatory authorities in all the 54 African countries.
Ajiboye was also conferred with Fellowship Award and Life Membership of AFTRA, following his contributions to teacher professionalism and welfare issues in Nigeria and the continent.
Reacting to his appointment, Ajiboye told the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) that the election was a call to more responsibilities.
He promised to work towards “taking the message of teacher professionalism to the whole of the continent and Arabic speaking countries.
“I will work towards a more rejuvenated AFTRA with more drive and impact on the education of the African child.”
He assured of efforts to assist countries without teacher regulatory bodies to establish one. (NAN)
