Mr Hamisu Maiyali, the Immunisation Manager, Bebeji Local Government Council in Kano State, has attributed the successes recorded in polio eradication campaign to the contributions of traditional rulers in the state.
Maiyali stated this while reviewing progress of the ongoing Immunisation Plus Days (IPDs) exercise, on Tuesday in Bebeji.
He said that traditional rulers in the area had been very helpful in awareness creation and mobilising participation in the campaign against the disease.
“The successes we have recorded so far can be attributed to the effective roles being played by traditional rulers in collaboration with the Task Force committee.
“They have been actively engaged in community based advocacy, awareness creation and mobilisation. This created more interest of parents in getting their children immunised,” he said.
The Manager, however, urged to parents to sustain the tempo and sumbmit their wards for immunisation at designated centres.
He also commended the Bebeji LGC for its support to the routine immunisation through the provision of pluses which facilitated successful conduct of the exercise.
The News agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that about three million children are targeted for immunisation against polio in the five-day IPDs exercise across the 44 LGAs of the state.
The exercise would run between July 31 and Aug. 4. (NAN)
