President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sympathy for the Nigerian military following the loss of six soldiers in a terrorist attack on an army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State, on January 4.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the president extended condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, emphasizing that their sacrifice in defense of the nation will always be honoured and remembered.
President Tinubu called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Commending the military’s swift response, the president praised the air component of the armed forces for their effective retaliatory strikes, which resulted in the significant neutralization of many terrorists and the destruction of their assets as they fled.
“This resolute action by the Army demonstrates the capability and readiness of our military to confront and defeat threats to our nation’s security,” Tinubu said.
“Their efforts reaffirm our commitment to eradicating terrorism and banditry, ensuring a future of peace and security for all Nigerians. Your sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we stand firmly behind you in this fight.”
The president urged the military to adopt a more proactive approach by taking the fight to the camps of terrorists and bandits, particularly in the Northwest, where such criminals continue to threaten innocent lives and communities.
He also called on Nigerians and the media to support the military’s efforts to restore peace and security across the nation.
