The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation is to begin a two-week national camping in Kebbi State, for its athletes.
This is contained in a statement signed by the federation’s President, Alhaji Abdullahi Baba, on Tuesday in Lagos.
Baba said that 32 athletes and three officials would be camped for two weeks in Birnin Kebbi for intensive training on the different aspects of the game.
“We felt that we should not keep our athletes idle for a long time before competitions.
“We have the Africa Games and Olympics; so, we concluded that it is necessary for them to go into camping every now and then,” he added.
Baba said that Birnin-Kebbi had all the facilities required for the camping, adding that the camping would allow proper bonding of athletes.
“They will be prepared mentally and psychologically for the task ahead.
“They will all be in one place where they won’t need to move up and down and they will be closely supervised,” he said.
The president said that preparations for the inaugural President’s Cup National Open Championship was ongoing.
“Although we have not yet declared a financial prize, the board has been working hard to secure sponsors.
“This (the championship) will take place in Abuja next month,” he said. (NAN)
