Social Media giant, Twitter has expressed “deep concern” over Nigerian government’s decision to suspend its operations in the country.
TheCable reports that Sarah Hart, Twitter’s senior policy communications manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa, says the company is investigating the development.
Recall that the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had while announcing the suspension of Twitter on Friday, cited “the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence”.
Prompt News reports that prominent Nigerians have been reacting to the suspension, which was a reaction to the deletion of a post by President Muhammad Buhari, which made reference to Nigeria’s civil war.
African literary giant, Professor Wole Soyinka, counseled the President to sort out his problem with Twitter privately in a manner that will not affect Nigerians access to free speech.
