Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has declared that Nigeria must do everything possible to secure a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Prompt News Online reports.
The nine-time African champions missed out on automatic qualification for Brazil 2027 after suffering a 1-0 defeat to the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The defeat means Justine Madugu’s side must now take the more difficult route to the World Cup, starting with Thursday’s crucial play-in encounter against Banyana Banyana of South Africa.
The game will be played at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca, with kick-off scheduled for 9pm Nigerian time.
With the Super Eagles already failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Oshoala insisted the Super Falcons cannot afford to compound the disappointment by also missing out on the global stage.
The experienced striker stressed the importance of getting the job done against South Africa and also appealed to Nigerian fans to continue backing the team in their quest for a World Cup ticket.
“The only thing I can say right now is we need their support. The World Cup ticket is at stake, so this is the time when we really need everyone to support the team,” Oshoala was quoted by ESPN.
“We already know the Super Eagles didn’t qualify so we know what is at stake and we know how Nigerians feel about this. We are sorry we lost this one, but the next game we will put in more effort and try to win the game.”
