Former Super Eagles head coach Adegboye Onigbinde believes the team will earn a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Prompt News reports.
Eric Chelle’s side are facing the prospect of missing out on the mundial for the second successive edition.
Nigeria currently sit in third position in Group C with 14 points from nine matches.
The Super Eagles will take on Benin Republic in a crucial matchday 10 encounter at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Tuesday.
The West Africans must beat the Cheetahs, and also hope South Africa drop points against Rwanda to qualify for the global soccer fiesta.
“It’s a pity that we find ourselves in this situation, but then, I expect the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Whether or not we are adequately prepared for that is what I don’t know,” Onigbinde, who has managed the Super Eagles twice in the past declared.
“The players must do the needful first against Benin and hope for favours elsewhere.”
