Ondo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Bamidele Ologunloluwa, on Thursday said plans had been concluded to motivate players and staff of Sunshine Stars Football Club ahead of the Super Six.
Super Six is a competition of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) that will determine teams that will win the 2022/2023 season.
Ologunloluwa stated this while speaking with sports journalists in Akure ahead of the Super Six.
The commissioner assured sports enthusiasts within and outside the state that his management team will do everything legitimately to ensure Sunshine Stars perform creditably at the competition.
The participating teams in the Super Six are; Sunshine Stars, Rivers United, Bendel Insurance, Enyimba FC, Lobi Stars and Remo Stars.
Ologunloluwa said the management has also increased the bonus of the players as a means of motivating them.
“We seek the support of all football stakeholders, including sports journalists for us to emerge victorious at the competition,” he said.
The commissioner, while commending the Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa-led Interim Management Committee for laying a solid foundation for his management team to build upon, said that the management team would ensure that Sunshine Stars have a good outing at the competition.
“I have been often time been misunderstood over the sale of Sunshine Stars, what the government said was to partner with the interested investors and not the outright sale of the club.
“What we need is an investor that would partner with us to reduce the financial burden from the government .
“The name and the home ground of the team must remain; we are of the view that government should not be involved in sports business 100 per cent.
“For the umpteenth time, I’m calling on the private individuals and corporate bodies to join hands with the government to develop sports in all facets,” he said.
Ologunloluwa appreciated Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu for his support and assurances for the team. (NAN)
