MINNA – A Minna Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced an 18-year-old student, Buhari Mohammed, to two months imprisonment for stealing a cell phone.
The Magistrate, Fati Auna, sentenced Mohammed as he admitted committing the offence, but, however, gave the convict N10,000 option of fine.
Mohammed was docked on a count charge of theft, that contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
The prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Danladi, had told the court that one Aisha Mahmud of New York area, Bosso, reported the matter at the police station on Oct.30.
Danladi said the complainant dropped her Techno W3 phone inside her mother’s shop at Bosso and stepped outside to check something.
The prosecutor said that when she came back, the cell phone was no longer there.
He said that police detectives swung into action, arrested Mohammed and found in his possession, the cell phone valued at N30, 000.
When the charge was read to him, he pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.
The prosecutor prayed the court to try him summarily in line with Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code. (NAN)
