President Goodluck Jonathan Tuesday met with Senate President David Mark at the State House.
The meeting which held behind closed doors was attended by Deputy Senate President Ike Ekerenmadu and a couple of Senators.
Also sighted at the Presidential Villa was the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha.
Prompt News gathered that the meeting was convened so as to create an avenue for the President to lobby the leadership of the National Assembly and some Senators so that the request for extension of emergency rule in the north east could sail through.
It will be recalled that the President had earlier in the day written formally to both the Senate and the House, requesting for extension of the State of Emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States.
He had notified the lawmakers that despite concerted efforts by government to rid the north east of insurgency, attacks by Boko Haram have not abated especially in the three states.
The National Defence Council at its meeting on Monday presided over by President Jonathan had resolved to seek for extension of the emergency rule.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal has also reconvened the House for Thursday to consider the request in view of its urgency.
The President had sought for extension twice.
Prompt News recalls that President Jonathan had on ay 14, 2013, declared a state of emergency in the three states.
This followed escalation of attacks by the insurgency which has led to loss of thousands of lives and destruction of property worth millions of naira.
