The die is cast and it is St Paul’s Secondary School, Ozoro, versus Marvel International School, Ughelli, in the finals of the 2nd edition of the Zenith Bank Delta Principals Cup.
St Paul’s joined Marvel in the contest for the ultimate prize, defeating Boys Secondary School, Obiaruku, 2-0 in the second semi final match at the Kwale Township Stadium on Tuesday.
Precious Isike scored in the 29th minute while Godwin Uwaogho sealed victory with another goal in 51 minutes.
Marvel was first to book their slot for the finals with a 3-1 defeat of Otokutu Grammar School via penalties in the first semi final at the Warri Township Stadium on Monday.
St Paul’s came into the semi final defeating Obule Integrated Schools, Sapele, 5-4 on penalties after playing one-all at regulation time in an explosive quarter final at the Ughelli Township Stadium, last Wednesday.
They had earlier defeated Alidima Secondary School, Agbor-Alidima, 3-1 and drew 1-1 with St Michaels College, Oleh, qualifying by superior goals difference from their Group B Zonal elimination pairing after St Michaels managed just a 1-0 victory over Alidima.
The finals promises to be a hard fight with St Paul’s having the advantage of home ground in the finals slated for Ozoro Polytechnic Stadium on Friday, March 2, but the Ughelli boys proved to be at home on any turf, especially with the Ozoro venue just a walk away for their expected teeming supporters.
