            Sokoto

Sokoto State Executive Council has approved the sum of over N1.5 billion for construction, rehabilitation and expansion of a number of rural roads across the state.

A statement issued Sunday in Sokoto by Malam Imam Imam, the spokesman to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, said when completed, the roads will open up rural areas and ease transportation difficulties faced by commuters farmers when moving farm produce to urban centres.

It said the roads will also open up the rural areas and ensure access to quality life, while at the same time help in tackling poverty.

According to the statement, the roads include the 11km Gidan Sarki to Dabagi to Ambarura road in Illela LGA at the cost of N200 million; upgrading and tarring of the 18km Kebbe to Ungushi road at the cost of N409 million and construction of the Gwadabawa-Cimola feeder road at the total cost of N202 million.

“Others include construction of 25 km feeder road to link Kwanar Bawa to Gidan Dadi to Kwannawa to Kwacce Huro to Arabar Birni to Arabar Daji to Gidima and eventually to Kalanjeni at the cost of N242 million.

“Similarly, the Council approved the tarring of 7.5 km road from Gusau main road to Rikina, Dogon Runji, Sabaru which bursts out at Sokoto Eastern By-pass at the cost of over N168 million.

“The rest are tarring of 4km Modaci to Gazau road at the cost of N107 naira as well as upgrading and tarring of 2km Yabo By-pass road to Buware at the cost of N55 million,” it added.

The spokesman added that the government has also given the contract for the construction of 18km road linking Goronyo, Illela and Gadon Mata in Goronyo LGA at the cost of just over N290 million.

“Government will continue to ensure the people get the best value in all engagements. All contractors are also tasked to ensure they keep to specifications and deliver on time,” the statement added.
