The Senate has granted second reading approval to the 2025 budget of Rivers State, amounting to ₦1.48 trillion.
The budget was presented on Wednesday by Senate Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, who noted that the Senate assumed legislative authority over Rivers State following the declaration of a state of emergency in the region.
Supporting the motion, Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan highlighted the need for swift action to ensure that residents of Rivers State benefit from governance during the emergency period.
“Mr. President, although I am uncertain under what category this document falls, it is evidently tied to the emergency situation.
I support its second reading so the people can feel the presence of government,” he stated.
With no objections raised, Senate President Godswill Akpabio conducted a voice vote and referred the budget to the Ad-hoc Committee on Overseeing the Rivers State of Emergency for further legislative review.
