Former Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State, Abbas Sani Abbas, has officially left the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to join the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection follows his removal from office last month by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, alongside five other commissioners, during a cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening governance in the state.
Senate Deputy President, Barau Jibrin, confirmed Mr. Abbas’s switch in a statement shared on social media. He commended the former commissioner’s commitment to grassroots development and expressed confidence in his potential contributions to the APC.
“I warmly welcomed Hon. Abbas Sani Abbas to our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Mr. Jibrin wrote.
“He previously served as the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State. During his visit to us in Kano, he formally announced his departure from the NNPP to join the APC.”
Mr. Jibrin further emphasized that the reception for Mr. Abbas included prominent APC figures such as Kano State party chairman Prince Abdullahi Abbas and other party leaders.
He assured the former commissioner of unwavering support in efforts to foster progress for the people of Kano State and Nigeria at large.
