The Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday confirmed five out of the nine commissioner-nominees submitted by the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, while rejecting four others after a screening exercise.
The decision followed a screening session that lasted more than two hours during plenary presided over by the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule.
Announcing the outcome, Amaewhule said the Assembly confirmed five nominees after reviewing their qualifications and performance during the screening process.
He noted, however, that four nominees were dropped due to unsatisfactory performance and issues arising from petitions and concerns surrounding their nominations.
According to the Speaker, the affected nominees failed to sufficiently convince the lawmakers of their preparedness and competence to serve in the Rivers State Executive Council.
He added that the Assembly would formally communicate its resolution to the governor in line with legislative procedures.
Amaewhule also disclosed that the House would request the governor to proceed with the swearing-in of the confirmed nominees.
Those whose nominations were rejected include Prof. Datonye Alasia, Barr. Tamuno Williams, Otonye Amachree and Charity Deemua.
Meanwhile, the lawmakers confirmed Tonye Belgam, Prof. Temple Nwafor, Dr Peters Nwagor, Lekue Kenneth and Amarigha Edward-Hart as commissioners-designate.
