Contrary to the erroneous believe that the newly inaugurated Governor of Imo State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha ordered the demolition of the controversial monument erected by ex- Governor Rochas Okorocha in Owerri, investigations have revealed that the aggrieved youths of the communities in the state capital carried out the act.
Prompt News investigations revealed that youths of two communities of Umuoyima and Umuodu in the Owerri Municipal Council mobilised during the week to bring down the monument which they claimed is sited on their ancestral land by the former governor without due process.
A member of Umuoyima Community in the heart of the Owerri City who spoke on the condition of anonymity disclosed that the youths of Imo State and Owerri Municipal Council in particular who have an axe to grind with ex- Gov. Okorocha moved against ‘Akachi’ Tower.
They claimed that the plot of land on which it is built was forcefully taken away from them.
According to our multi but reliable sources in Owerri, the Umuoyima and Umuodu youths claimed that they obtained a valid court order before they embarked on the demolition of the site 24 hours after the exit of the Okorocha.
It will be recalled that the demolition of the controversial monument went viral during the week with many believing that the new government authorised the demolition.
But Sir Steve Osuji, Special Adviser to Imo State Governor on Media has debunked such insinuations pointing out that the new government will rather rebuild Imo state than to waste its precious time to engage in the demolition of the monument.
