The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Capital Territory Judiciary on Thursday visited some FCT courts, calling on the judiciary to be effective and efficient in its operations.
Rep. Adamu Gamawa, the Chairman, House Committee on FCT Judiciary led other members of the committee on an oversight to the courts in Abuja.
He said that the visit said the visit is in line with the constitution’s provisions which empower the legislators to carryout oversight roles.
Gamawa stated that the visit was not to witch-hunt anybody but aimed at assessing the condition of the courts and come up with possible ways of addressing the challenges.
He noted that the visit would enable them to know the state of some of the ongoing projects.
He said the performance or utilization of the previous appropriated funds including 2024 budget would determine what should be provided in the 2025 budget for the FCT Judiciary.
The Chief Registrar of the High Court of the FCT, Hajiya Hadiza Dodo, in her remark solicited for the assistance of the committee over what she called pressing and urgent difficulties.
Some of the challenges according to her include underfunding of construction of the High Court complex in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, inadequate funding for construction of Magistrates quarters.
She also listed additional courtrooms, inadequate official vehicles among others.(NAN).
