Former Minister of Sports, Samaila Sambawa, has urged the Super Eagles Captain, Joseph Yobo to quit the stage now that the ovation is loudest.
According to him Yobo has served Nigeria very well and won the African Cup of Nations after six attempts, noting that it would be more befitting for him to throw in the towel now.
“If I were him I would call a press conference and announce my retirement from international football instead of being benched in a team that he used to captain. Yobo has played his part and should leave the stage for younger players to rise.
“Yobo should celebrate his retirement from the Super Eagles now before his case becomes like that of Kanu Nwankwo who retired without fanfare after being on the bench in the last few few months of his playing career” Sambawa stated.
The former minister said the NFF would do well to organise a befitting testimonial match for Kanu as a mark of honour for the most decorated Nigerian player. Kanu Nwankwo retired after the 2010 world cup in South Africa.
