***As Institute, NNPCL mull CNG-powered ‘Keke’

The 3rd International Conference on Hydrocarbon Science and Technology (ICHST), a biennial conference organized by the Petroleum Training Institute Nigeria (PTI), Effurun in Delta state will hold from Monday 23 to Tuesday 24, October, 2023 at PTDF Towers, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Speaking at a press conference held in Abuja on Thursday, the Principal/ Chief Executive of PTI, Dr. Henry Adebowale Adimula, disclosed that this year’s conference has the theme: “The Future of the Oil and Gas Industry: Opportunities, Challenges, and Development.”
According to Dr. Adimula who was flanked by Dr. (Mrs) Tina Isichie, Director of Research and Development, PTI, at the event, this conference will pay particular attention to the sector’s present situation, challenges, opportunities, and emerging trends.
He also said that it will cover how partnerships and collaboration may spur innovation and expansion in the energy sector, as well as the most recent trends, technologies, and legislation influencing the future of energy.
The Chief Executive also said that sub-themes of the conference include Gas Energy, Policies, Opportunities, Development, Challenges and Investment as well as Natural Gas untilization and Gas flare commercialization.
Others are Environmental pollution, climate change and waste management in the oil and gas industry; Research and Development in the Oil and Gas industry; Local content development in the Gas projects and industralization and ICT: AI and Big data in gas and related energies
Speaking further he said the focus will be on how the energy sector may transition to a more sustainable energy mix while balancing economic, environmental, and social concerns in the context of the fast-evolving energy landscape.
It will also consider managing risks and uncertainties, encouraging innovation and diversification, and creating a trained and adaptable workforce.
Dr. Adimula revealed that there will be four Panel Sessions including:
Session 1 with the theme: “The Role of Government Policies and Regulations in Shaping the Future of the Oil and Gas Industry”, adding that top names in the Oil and Gas industry within and outside Nigeria will be amongst the Speakers, Panelists and Moderators.
Among the Panelists are Hon. Benedict Etanabene, Member of Federal House of Representatives; Professor Zainab Gobir, Executive Director, Economic Regulation and Strategic Planning, NMDPRA and Dr. Kelechi Onyekachi Ofoegbu, Executive Commissioner responsible for
Economic Regulation and Strategic Planning, NUPRC.

His Excellency Dr. Farouq Ibrahim APPO Secretary General is billed to present a Keynote Address titled: “The Future of the Oil and Gas Industry: Opportunities, Challenges and Development” while the Group CEO, NNPC Limited, Engr. Mele Kolo Kyari, will make a Grounding Presentation I: “Maximizing the Potential of Natural Gas: Innovative Strategies for Utilization and Flare Reduction in the Era of Sustainable Energy”.

Meanwhile, Dr. (Mrs) Tina Isichie has revealed that PTI and NNPCL are partnering to introduce a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tricycle popularly called Kekè, adding that the Institute is developing an absorbent that can absorb the gas and release it slowly in order not to allow the gas to be refilled regularly.
She also disclosed that PTI is looking for partners to enable it scale up trainees for Modular Refineries, adding that the idea is not to see the environment degraded hence PTI is interested in the setting up Modular Refineries manned by trained personnel.
