The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has expressed strong confidence in the economic direction of the nation under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, pledging full subnational alignment with ongoing fiscal and structural reforms aimed at achieving a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2030.
This resolution was part of the far-reaching outcomes of the Forum’s meeting held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, from 16th to 17th October 2025—a gathering described by participants as both strategic and forward-looking, with far-reaching implications for national transformation and intergovernmental synergy.
Confidence in Economic Direction
In their joint communiqué, the APC Governors commended the President for steering the economy toward measurable stability and renewed confidence. The Forum observed that inflation had declined, interest rates were stabilizing, and the foreign exchange market was showing sustained appreciation—all outcomes of carefully sequenced reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
They noted that the fiscal position of all tiers of government had strengthened considerably, thanks to higher revenue accruals and the commendable refunding of legacy debts owed to states by the Federal Government. These actions, they affirmed, have expanded the fiscal capacity of subnational governments to deliver on capital projects and social welfare obligations.
The Renewed Hope Ward-Based Development Programme
The PGF hailed the President’s introduction of the Renewed Hope Ward-Based Development Programme, which it described as one of the most inclusive policy interventions in Nigeria’s democratic history. Covering all 8,809 wards nationwide, the programme’s collaborative structure—uniting Federal, State, and Local Governments—was lauded as a practical expression of cooperative federalism and grassroots empowerment.
The Forum urged the Federal Ministry of Budget and Planning and the Programme’s Steering Committee to ensure effective implementation, assuring them of the Governors’ full backing. “This is a profound moment for Nigeria,” the Forum noted, “as every ward across the country will now have the opportunity and support to reach its full potential.”
Pathway to the $1 Trillion Economy
The Governors welcomed the ongoing work on the Renewed Hope Plan (2026–2030)—a forward-looking policy blueprint that aims to position Nigeria as a trillion-dollar economy by the end of the decade. They applauded the decision of the National Economic Council to adopt a bottom-up planning model, ensuring that development priorities emerge from communities, local governments, and states before being integrated into the national plan.
This participatory approach, the Forum stated, will guarantee inclusivity, balance, and ownership of Nigeria’s economic future. The Governors reaffirmed their readiness to collaborate with the Federal Government in scaling up agricultural productivity, boosting domestic production, supporting small businesses, and deepening digital innovation—all pillars of sustainable prosperity.
Fiscal Reforms and Investment Mobilization
Reiterating their commitment to fiscal responsibility, the PGF celebrated the rising investor confidence in state economies. The Governors vowed to continue leading reforms in transparency, e-governance, and financial prudence through digital procurement systems, modern budgeting frameworks, and public-private partnerships.
They further emphasized that APC-led states remain innovation hubs for infrastructure financing, industrial development, and job creation—ensuring that economic growth is both inclusive and people-centered.
Collective Faith in Renewed Hope
In conclusion, the Forum reaffirmed its unwavering support for President Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as “a visionary reformer whose policies are laying the foundation for a stronger, more equitable, and prosperous Nigeria.”
Signed by the PGF Chairman, His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma, the communiqué called on all Nigerians to unite behind the Renewed Hope Agenda and embrace the shared vision of a trillion-dollar economy built on integrity, productivity, and resilience.
