The FCT Acting Director of Sports, Mrs. Dilichukwu Onyedinma has charged the Sports Associations in the Capital City to be proactive and ensure that they contribute positive in building future talents for FCT and the country in general.
The Acting Director of Sports was speaking in her office when she received the victorious FCT Volleyball team that won laurels in the just concluded Beach Volleyball Tournament held in Kaduna.
She said that the Sports Department is very determined to return the lost glory of the Federal Capital Territory in sports, and that they would be readily available to render all the needed support to ensure that discover hidden talents within the capital city and expose them to various national and international competitions.
Mrs. Onyendinma was full of appreciation to the Chairman of FCT Volleyball Association, Mr. Jackson Imadi for his financial support in ensuring that the team participated in the tournament where they won gold for U-21 boys, Silver U-18 girls and bronze U-15 girls.
The Head Coach of the team Vincent Onogwu said that eight players from the team was penciled down for invitation for the national volley team that would be taking part in the World Volleyball Championship later in the year.
Meanwhile, the Director of Sports has advised the newly inaugurated FCT Swimming Association to ensure that they produce good swimmers for FCT that would win medals in major swimming events in the nearest future.
Mrs. Onyedinma who spoke at the formal inauguration of the FCT Swimming Association said with proper planning, that FCT has the potentials of producing the best swimmers that can win laurels for the country in major International competitions in the nearest future “we want to charge you to go down to the primary and secondary schools in FCT and get us those good swimmers that would give us medals in the nearest future. We are very confident that you can do it, considering the caliber of people in your Association” she said.
Responding, the Chairman of the Association, Mrs. Maryam Damisa promised that her Association would ensure that FCT becomes a force to reckon with in Swimming in the country in the nearest future. She said that they would soon unfold their various grassroots development programmes that would cover all Area Councils in FCT.
She was full of appreciation to the FCT Sports Department for giving them the opportunity.
