After returning from his official trip to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, President Muhammadu Buhari is today presiding over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Physically present at the meeting are Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo; Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Barrister Boss Mustapha; Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari and Head of the Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan.
Also attending the meeting are Ministers of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed; Justice, Abubakar Malami; Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola and Minister for Power, Abubakar Aliyu, among others.
Other cabinet members are participating virtually from their respective offices in Abuja.
Shortly before the commencement of the meeting, the Council observed a minute silence in honour of former Minister of National Planning, Ayodele Ogunlade, who died recently, aged 88.
He served as Minister during the regime of the late General Sani Abacha. He will be remembered for his selfless contributions to national development.
Wednesday’s meeting was also preceded by the inauguration of the national Council on Climate Change by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Recall that FEC meeting was not held last week after the President and Vice President were out of the country on very important state assignments.
While President Buhari travelled to USA to attend his last UNGA as an elected President of Nigeria, VP Osinbajo headed to the United Kingdom to represent Nigeria at the burial of late Queen Elizabeth II in London.
