The Oyo State Police Command has issued a security advisory banning unauthorised processions and movements in Ibadan ahead of the coronation of former Governor Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on Friday.
The ceremony, scheduled for the historic Mapo Hall, is expected to attract dignitaries and participants from across the country and beyond.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, said the command had activated comprehensive security measures in collaboration with other agencies to ensure a peaceful event.
According to the statement, the measures include confidence-building patrols, stop-and-search operations, intelligence-led surveillance, and tight monitoring of all entry and exit points into the city.
Security attention will also focus on public parks, train stations, and the Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport.
The police further announced traffic restrictions around Mapo Hall beginning from 7 a.m. on Friday.
Roads to be closed include Beere junction to Mapo Hall, Born Photo junction to Oja’ba, and Idi-Arere junction to Oja’ba-Itamerin junction to Mapo Hall.
Residents were advised to adjust their travel plans and use alternative routes to avoid disruptions.
The police warned against any act of disorder before, during, and after the coronation, stressing that offenders would face the full weight of the law.
