The Police in Bauchi has dismissed reports that some villagers lost their lives in a communal clash at Buri-Buri village in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.
The Spokesman of the Command, SP Ahmed Wakil, gave the clarification while briefing newsmen on the incident, on Thursday in Bauchi.
Wakil dismissed as “false” report insinuating that some villagers were killed in a clash between the Buri-Buri village in Gajuwa of Bauchi and Bara community in Dukku Local Government Area of Gombe State.
He said that the village head of Buri-Buri community reported to the police that some people from the Bara village in Gombe crossed the river on the boundary and invaded their farmlands.
He said that according to the report the attackers started shooting sporadically into the air and destroyed farmlands.
Wakil, however, said that no lives were lost in the incident, adding that the command had deployed personnel to protect lives and property.
“After the incident, the Commissioner of Police summoned a meeting with Special Adviser on Security; Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Chairman, Ganjuwa LGC, community leaders, representatives of the National Boundary Commission and other stakeholders where they deliberate on the way forward.
“Part of the resolution is that a formal complaint was lodged before the National Boundary Commission.
“While the governors of Bauchi and Gombe States, Council Chairmen of the affected communities and relevant stakeholders will meet to ensure sustainable peace in the communities.
“Also, the Commissioner of Police of the two states will deploy policemen in the areas where the clashes erupted to prevent further disturbances,” he said.
While calling for calm, Wakil sought the cooperation of all stakeholders to maintain peace. (NAN)
