The Police Command in Oyo State on Thursday paraded a 33-year- old man who allegedly impersonated a soldier to rob one Mary Olayinwola of an Infinix phone and some money.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mrs Ngozi Onadeko, paraded the “fake soldier” along with 32 others arrested for various offences ranging from conspiracy, armed robbery, murder and kidnapping.
Onadeko explained that the suspect attacked Olayiwola on May 22, 2021, at High School area, Ogbomoso, while armed with a gun and other dangerous weapons.
The CP said that the Olayiwola reported the matter to the police and discreet investigation was conducted, which led to the arrest of the suspect on Jan. 29.
“The hoodlum was arrested in his hideout and the Infinix cell phone stolen from the victim was recovered from him.
“Further investigation revealed that the suspect had always been parading himself as a serving military personnel and when a search warrant was executed on his house, military exhibits were recovered,” she added.
Onadeko said that the suspect had allegedly confessed to armed robbery and impersonation of a military personnel to conceal his criminal activities.
She listed the exhibits recovered from the suspect to include two pairs of military camouflage uniform, one military cardigan, an empty pistol jacket, two military face caps, and one military rain coat.
Others include a lanyard, a military camouflage knickers, a smoke box and an Infinix phone.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that also paraded were 11 suspects who allegedly specialised in attacking hotels in Ibadan and Oyo town.
The suspected were alleged to have attacked lodgers at Begonia Hotel, Continental Supreme Hotel and Dokson Hotel all in Oyo town, as well as Watershield Hotel, Scrolab Hotel and Socreet Hotel in Ibadan. (NAN)
