The Ebonyi Police Command says it has banned the use of SPY number plates in the state.
The command’s Spokesman, SP Chris Anyanwu, announced the ban in a statement issued in Abakaliki and made available to newsmen on Thursday.
Anyanwu stated that the ban included both authorised and unauthorised persons in the state.
He explained that the directive came from the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba.
“In compliance with the directive, all Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Teams should ensure that all Police SPY number plates currently in use in the state, whether authorised or otherwise, are confiscated with immediate effect
“All authorisations are hereby revoked indefinitely.
“The police officers and officers of other security agencies attached to VIPs, who use SPY number plates in the state, should ensure compliance with the IGP’s order or face arrest for disobedience to lawful order,” Anyanwu added.
The statement appealed for continuous support and cooperation from all and sundry.
It also cautioned the enforcing police officers against human rights violation.
“Avoid extortion and other unethical conducts,” the statement added.
It further stated that a police task force had been constituted and mandated to go round the state to ensure total compliance. (NAN)
