The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate while allegedly attempting to withdraw ransom proceeds from a Point of Sale terminal in Ilorin East Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Muhamodu Sanni, was arrested around the Obudu/Woru axis following an intelligence-led operation by police operatives investigating the abduction of three persons from Obudu Village.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.
She said the arrest followed sustained intelligence gathering after gunmen invaded Obudu Village and abducted three residents on July 28, 2026.
According to her, detectives subsequently expanded their investigation to the financial, logistical and communication networks allegedly supporting the kidnapping operation.
The investigation, she said, eventually led operatives to Sanni, who was apprehended while allegedly trying to cash out money believed to be proceeds of the ransom paid in connection with the abduction.
The police spokesperson said the development represented a significant breakthrough in the command’s efforts to dismantle the support structures of kidnapping gangs operating in the state.
She said, “The sustained offensive of the Kwara State Police Command against kidnapping has recorded another significant breakthrough, as intelligence-led operations successfully penetrated the support structure of a kidnapping syndicate operating around Obudu/Woru axis of Ilorin East Local Government Area, culminating in the arrest of Muhamodu Sanni while allegedly attempting to cash out ransom proceeds linked to a recent abduction.”
She added that the operation was launched after three persons were kidnapped during the armed invasion of Obudu Village.
