President of the Nigeria Football Federation and CAF 1st Vice President, Amaju Melvin Pinnick, has dedicated the Women Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) trophy won on Saturday by the Super Falcons to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Falcons overcame a stubborn South African Banyana Banyana squad on penalties after a scoreless 120 minutes to retain the AWCON title for the record ninth time.
Pinnick, whose birthday it was, said “This is very special for me, coming on my birthday. I am very proud of the Super Falcons of Nigeria, and I congratulate them for doing our country proud.
“We dedicate this trophy to President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR).
“This is the Falcons’ ninth African title, so the news is not that they won here.
“The news is that the Nigeria Football Federation will look for the resources to to give the team solid preparation, so that this time, we will make a big impact at the FIFA World Cup and not simply go there to make up the number.”
Bronze medal winners, Cameroon, who also qualified for the FIFA World Cup, picked up the Fair Play trophy.
