The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies, for peaceful conduct of the Dec. 5 by-election in the state.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Chief Jude Ugwu in Enugu on Tuesday. Ugwu said that the state House of Assembly by-election conducted for Isiuzo state Constituency on Saturday was credible, transparent and hitch-free.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the PDP candidate, Mrs. Catherine Ugwueze was declared the winner of the by-election by polling 11,041 votes to defeat her opponent in the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Ejiofor Okwor who polled 2,293 votes.
Ugwueze takes over the constituency seat in the state assembly following the demise of her husband, Chijioke Ugwueze, who died on June 11.
”We expressed deep appreciation to the good people of Enugu State for their tremendous support, goodwill and solidarity to the party, ” Ugwu said.
The party reiterated its commitment to the existing peace and good governance entrenched in the state by its leader, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. (NAN)
