Parenting Requires Wisdom, Not Just a Title, by Victoria Hanson

Parenting goes far beyond simply being called “mummy” or “daddy.” Holding the position doesn’t automatically qualify anyone as a good parent. What truly qualifies you is wisdom, especially divine wisdom. Without it, what you believe to be right may end up destroying a child’s future.

The Bible reminds us that “wisdom is profitable to direct” (Ecclesiastes 10:10), and also instructs us to “get wisdom, and in all your getting, get understanding” (Proverbs 4:7). These are not mere suggestions, they are divine principles for anyone guiding the life of a child.

Over time, I’ve come to realize that many children have tendency to lie sometimes convincingly, even with tears to make their story believable. As parents and teachers, we must be careful in our approach.

Therefore , If a negative report is brought to you about your child (or any child under your care), don’t immediately confront them with accusations like, “I heard you did this or that.” as though you’re unsure. Instead, go straight to the point and ask, “Why did you do this?” Ask as if you are certain they did it. If they are guilty, their response will often reveal the truth, whether through stammering, inconsistency, or nervousness. Truth has a way of exposing itself.

You would know either way, even if he didn’t commit the offense.

Most importantly, never let your children know that you trust them blindly. Excessive or unchecked trust can become a hiding place for wrongdoing. A wise parent builds trust, yes, but also remains alert and discerning. Love your children deeply, but lead them wisely.

In all things , be wise. Parenting is not just a role, it’s a responsibility that demands wisdom, vigilance, and understanding.
