Mr Abdur-Raheem Abiodun, the Oyo State Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, says the administration will revoke land allocations in government’s housing estates without approved building plans.
Abiodun said this on Tuesday during his inspection tour of some government housing estates in Ibadan.
Those visited included Kolapo Ishola, Carlton Gate, Akobo, Agodi GRA, Elenushonsho, Jericho, Apata, Adeoyo GRA, Ring-road and Ajimoshe Housing Estates.
He expressed displeasure over many undeveloped plots of land in the estates visited, noting that many choice lands were only fenced by the owners.
The commissioner said government would also withdraw allocation from those whose building plans were incomplete and those who had not paid for the lands allocated to them.
He called on those that have obtained building plans and whose applications had yet to be completed, to visit the ministry to complete their application within seven days or have their land allocations revoked.
The commissioner, however, said the issue would be handled on the basis of fairness, transparency and accountability.
Abiodun further expressed government’s readiness to sell about 38 semi-detached units of bungalow situated at Carlton Gate Estate, Akobo, to members of the public at affordable rates.
He said the move to sell the houses was to fulfill part of the present administration’s electoral promises to provide affordable housing for the citizenry.
The commissioner stressed that a lot of people in the state could access affordable houses available in Carlton Gate Estate if they apply at the appropriate time.
“In keeping faith with the electoral promises made by our governor, Makinde, during the campaigns on affordable housing we are putting up 38 semi-detached units of bungalows that are at the Carlton Gate estate at Akobo in Ibadan for sale at cheap price to the people,” he said.
Abiodun said government would provide more affordable houses to the people and make acquisition of landed property easier and affordable for ordinary people.
