Chairman of Action Democratic Party (ADP) Governorship Election Committee in Anambra state, Senator Roland Owie, has called on all persons who have attained the voting age in the state and who are yet to register to take advantage of the ongoing continuous voter registration (CVR) to do so.
Owie, at a meeting of ADP in Onitsha on Friday, said the people should commit themselves to massively vote for the candidate of the party, Mr Ifeanyichukwu Okonkwo, in the November 18, 2017 governorship election to enable him devolve powers to the local government councils.
According to him, “By the grace of God, ADP-led government in the state will, as a party policy, devolve powers from the state to local council, town development associations and traditional rulers.
“This will reduce concentration of powers at the state level and also reduce corruption.”
He said ADP government would rework the Anambra Town Development Authority Bye Laws, affecting Centres like Nnewi, Onitsha, Ogidi, Aguata, Ihiala, Ogbaru, Otuo-Ocha, Aguleri, Umunze, among others, in order to enable them access at least 20 percent of the state capital votes for maintenance and retention of such indigenous communities overrun by urbanisation.
Owie, who was Chief Whip in the fourth senate, said the ADP should be trusted to deliver on its campaign promises, adding that the people should show readiness for progressive and people-oriented change by registering to vote and actually trooping out en-mass to cast their votes for Mr Okonkwo in the forthcoming governorship election.
