The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Saturday’s election in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is set to be declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
According to the results from the 30 local government areas of the state announced so far by INEC, Adeleke is leading his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, APC, by over 80,000 votes.
Results available on IReV indicated that Adeleke was leading in 21 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji was ahead in nine.
According to Arise News, as at 2.06am, Sunday morning, INEC has uploaded results from 3,612 polling units, representing 95.99 per cent of the 3,763 polling units in the state, to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
With results from only 151 polling units yet to be uploaded, Adeleke, candidate of the Accord Party, had polled 509,057 votes, representing 51.7 per cent of the votes available on IReV.
Oyebamiji had 425,879 votes, or 43.2 per cent, leaving Adeleke with a lead of more than 80,000 votes at that stage of the process.
African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam was a distant third with 17,393 votes, representing 1.8 per cent.
The figures, however, remained provisional pending the completion of collation and formal declaration of the winner by INEC.
