The Osun Government has confirmed the appointments of 1,146 local government workers in the state.
Mr Peter Babalola, Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, disclosed this in Osogbo on Friday.
He said that the confirmation was in compliance with Gov. Rauf Aregbesola’s directive on the lifting of embargo on confirmation, promotion and conversion of civil servants in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the embargo was placed in 2016 due to the harsh economic situation of the state.
NAN reports that an agreement was reached on December 2017 with the labour unions and in early May 2018, the embargo was lifted.
Babalola said that the confirmation, which started on Monday with local government staff from Osun West Senatorial District; followed by Osun East; and rounded off with Osun Central.
“The promotion exercise and other staff entitlements to personnel due for it will be implemented without further delay.
“The ban on conversion, advancement, promotion and confirmation is meant to manage the meagre financial resources of the state and reduce the severe effect of the economic recession,’’ the chairman said in a statement.
Babalola said that workers would now be confirmed, converted, promoted and moved to the next level as and when due.
He commended the local government staff for their endurance and commitment and urged them to continue to give maximum support to the government to continue to affect people’s lives positively.
